Abstract:Basen on the criteria of the peak particle velocity(PPV) for blast-induced damage,the design approach for excavation blasting near contour of rock slope is discussed. A mathematic error existed in the equation to calculate PPV proposed by Holmberg and Persson is modified,then a new method which is both theoretically reasonable and easy to use is proposed to determine PPV. Finally,with the practical case of the rock slope excavation of the permanent ship locks at Three Gorges Project as an example,the detailed application of the modified approach is introduced,and rationality evaluation of the practical design parameters adopted at Three Gorges Project is also performed.
