NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS OF WATER INTERCEPTING AND DRAINAGE ASSOCIATED WITH AIR FILLING FOR LANDSLIDE TREATMENT

Abstract:On the basis of the water drainage theory with air filling and the seepage theory in unsaturated soil,the paper presents a method for controlling landslide,i.e. forming a unsaturated curtain for cutting off water in seepage path with compressed air. The process of water drainage with compressed air belongs to a very complex air-water two-phase flow process. The paper established a mathematical model to describe the real flow process for fluid on the basis of seepage mechanics,and used finite element method to analyze the effect of water intercepting and the influencing factors by using two-phase flow model for air and water. According to numerical simulations,the conclusions are drawn as follows:the air diffuses along the direction of lower water levels and the water flow direction changes to slope surface,so the effect of intercepting water is fine;the intercepting water process exists the start-up pressure and it increases with decreasing permeability coefficient;the effect of intercepting water is better with larger air pressure;the permeability coefficient and porosity have no effect on water intercepting.
