Abstract:The formula of Terzaghi ultimate bearing capacity of foundation based on Mohr-Coulomb strength theory does not take the influence of intermediate principal stress into account. The influence of intermediate principal stress on the ultimate bearing capacity of foundation is researched based on twin shear strength theory. The ultimate bearing capacity of foundation will be increased when the influence of intermediate principal stress on the bearing capacity of foundation is considered.
