Abstract:Based on the case of the fly ash dam of Leiyang Power Station in Hunan Province, the dynamic behavior of the fly ash dam at the elevations of 170,180 or 230 m with submerged beach or non-submerged beach is studied by models on the large-scale vibration table. The evaluation of earthquake-resistant behavior is also made on the models of 180 m fly ash dams heightened by three mixtures, and it is shown that the mixture type has little influence on the earthquake-resistant behavior of the dam. The tests show that the natural frequency of dam and the acceleration amplification ratio at the top of dam decrease with the increase of excitation acceleration and dam height and are lower under the condition of submerged beach than those of non-submerged beach.
