Abstract Determination of subsoil bearing capacity is very important step in foundation engineering design. Ac2 cording to the basic idea of calculating bearing capacity with kinematics element method , a new rest rictive condi2 tion of optimizing analysis suitable for general shear failure is proposed , and the most dangerous slip surface and ul2 timate bearing capacity are determined using genetic algorithm. Because of the global optimal algorithm , the pro2 posed method overcomes the shortcoming of local minimim value by normal methods.
