Abstract The landformation and geological conditions in the mountain area of the southwest China are very complex. Several special geological problems of weak rock，such as expansion of mudstone，stability of slope in fractured weak rock，soft soil properties of the carbonaceous shale under special environ-ment，are presented，and some prevention measures are suggested.
