Abstract The rock displacements and energy distribution at different bench hights in open-pit mine bench blasting were studied by 3D FEM. The problems that may appear in bench blasting were discussed. The results indicated that if the bench height is increased properly, the percent of large-scale stones may be decreased. The piles of blasted rock blocks large in size are intensively lowered in number and loading becomes easy,so the efficiency of mining equipment can be advanced. But the fact that sometimes toe rock may appear should be noted.
