Abstract Different methods for evaluating slope stability are comprehensively analyzed．The method of support vector machines is proposed for evaluating slope stability and builing predicting model．Based on a large set of slope samples，practical effectiveness of the theory of support vector machines for slope safety prediction is discussed．
