Abstract In order to make the embankment construction convenient for organization and management,and reduce the quality difference induced by differences in machines,techniques and levels of construction,reasonable construction techniques and methods are investigated,and the performance of the construction machines and their combination is statistically analyzed in the construction of embankment of lime-treated expansive soil in Xiangshi freeway. The reasonable machine arrangement and job practice are proposed accordingly. The influencing factors of the construction,such as grain size of soil mass,times of road mixing and field mixing,thickness of the loosening layers,and water content,speed and times of roller compaction,are analyzed. Some reasonable suggestions about the construction of expansive soil embankment in local conditions are put forward.
