Abstract The geologic conditions and environmental effects of different areas in Shenzhen Region are introduced. The development and application of supporting techniques for deep foundation pit excavations of different periods in Shenzhen Region are summarized. The main supporting structures，design calculation methods and the major achievements，and latest progress of these techniques are presented by some typical projects. Meanwhile，the main problems existing in design are summarized，and some opinions of supporting techniques for deep foundation pit excavations in the future are also given.
