| SELECTION OF BEARING STRATUM AND ANALYSIS ON BEARING CAPACITY OF PILE FOUNDATION FOR HIGH BUILDING |

Abstract The relationship is presented between strength and deformation resulting from the loading plate test in situ where the foundation soil is strongly，mediumly or slightly weathered shale. According to the relationship，analysis is made on the bearing capacity and settlement of pile foundation. It is deduced that the mediumly and slightly weathered layer can be used as the pile tip foundation，and the calculated settlements are closed to that observed.
