Abstract The stress and deformation of the surrounding rock mass of the underground powerhouse in the Shuibuya Project are analyzed using nonlinear FEM. Furthermore,the influences of support measures concerning the replacement of soft rock mass and shotcrete-bolt supporting on the stress and deformation of the surrounding rock mass are studied. Finally,the stability of the underground powerhouse is evaluated.
