Abstract The bolt-resin interface is the basis for studying the anchoring mechanism of resin bolts. In order to research mechanical evolution law of bolt-resin interfaces，constant normal stiffness shear test was carried out using a simplified two-dimensional shear model，and the normal stiffness range of the soft coal-bearing rock mass was calculated based on the theory of thick-walled cylinder. On this basis，the effect of the rib spacing and the normal stiffness on the mechanical evolution of rod-resin interfaces was studied. The test results show that the comprehensive optimal rib spacing of the bolt is affected by the country rock conditions. The optimal rib spacings are respectively 15 mm and 30 mm for the elastic modulus of rock mass in the ranges of 0.25–1 GPa and 1.9–3.8 GPa. Combined with the interface failure modes，the shear and normal mechanical evolution laws of the interface are analyzed and explained. By comparing the peak normal stress and peak shear stress，the main controlling factors for interface failure under different rib spacings and normal stiffnesses are proposed.
