Abstract Shield tunneling may cause not only the soil settlement, but also the longitudinal and transversal displacements in the respect to direction of shield advancing. The latter ones may have destructive effect on nearby buildings and buried pipelines. Monitoring is carried out for displacement of deep soils. The results show that the displacements of deep soils is related to the pose of shield, the pressure of the soil chamber, the depth of the tunnel and soil properties. The measures for restricting the displacements of deep soils are proposed accordingly.
