Abstract For exploration and development of oil & gas resources in the northeast region of China’s Sichuan Province, this paper describes the research on formation characteristics by combining formations with drilling difficulties in this region and the latest research results of bit type selection by using rock drillability. Corresponding relationship between IADC Codes and formation drillability is proposed for the first time in our country, and case histories of bit type selection using IADC Codes are also presented.
