Abstract：The rockmass shear strength is a fundamental parameter for dam design，and is normally obtained through the field or laboratory test with geological discount. The research result shows that it is very difficult to obtain the design value of rockmass shear strength because a lot of factors are necessary to be considered. In addition to the rock composition and structure，the stress state of rockmass is also a factor to influence the rockmass shear strength.
