Abstract:According to the present situation of a tailing dam,it is necessary to redesign the tailing dam to enlarge its volume and raise its final maximum elevation from 802 m to 860 m. So,the engineering geology and hydrogeology investigations are carried out to obtain the boring data and provide a basis for the design. The 3D finite element model of the whole dam area for back analysis of permeability coefficients is established based on the boring data and the results of the engineering geology and hydrogeology investigations. It is shown that it is feasible and effective to determine the permeability coefficients and solve the engineering problem by the back analysis of finite element model based on the boring data.
