Abstract:To evaluate the uplift behavior of enlarged base piles,a simplified numerical model for the piles in silt has been developed in this study and its calculated results are compared to the results of large-scale model tests. Agreement between the calculated results and the test results is excellent. A series of numerical analysis were then performed to investigate the effects of raining and ground water level on the uplift capacities of enlarged base piles with different depths. It is found that raining has a more significant influence on uplift capacities of the enlarged base piles with shallow embedment,while the variation of ground water level has a significant influence on the enlarged base piles with different depths.
