Abstract：From the results of the laboratory tests，it is shown that the swelling pressure of sand-bentonite mixtures is dependent on the dry density and bentonite content of mixtures. The ratio of montmorillonite filled in voids of the mixtures is proposed. After analyzing the influence factors on swelling pressure and swelling volumetric strain，it is found that the swelling pressure can be attributed to the ratio of montmorillonite filled in voids of the mixtures.
